Kentucky head coach John Calipari made an appearance on the Dan Patrick Show this morning, and for a while, things were going smoothly. That is, until the topic of Kentucky's "platoon" system came up.
While Calipari technically stopped "platooning" by subbing in different five-man units early in the season, he continued to play nine or 10 players on a game-by-game basis. He defended that practice to Patrick, saying each player merited playing time, and he was trying to develop them all while winning as much as possible.
Things really got heated around the 11-minute mark of this clip, with Calipari taking issue to Patrick's questioning of his substitution strategy. When he tried to close out the segment, Patrick dropped an “I’ve got other legends, I’ve got guys who won national championships [coming up]," while Calipari countered with "Who got those people on your show in the next hour? I know it wasn't you. I don’t know very many people who could stand you, that if you called, they’d come on.”
