Kentucky Basketball: Kentucky's John Calipari Clarifies His "Position-Less Players" Comment

During a teleconference with reporters earlier today, Kentucky men's basketball coach John Calipari said one of his goals with the Wildcats is to produce "position-less" players.

Where did Calipari get that term?

From Sacramento Kings' owner Vivek Ranadive.

I'm getting asked where my comment about position-less players came from. Just so you know, I got it from the owner of the Kings, @Vivek.

">@Vivek said he's looking for position-less players. My comment to him was that's how we coach. I just didn't have a term for it. Now I do.

The NBA does seem to be shifting to a style of play that focuses more on versatility and less on specific positions, so it makes sense for Calipari to coach that way. Getting his players to the league is his biggest goal, after all.
