As of Tuesday, we know what Kentucky’s basketball roster will look like when the 2019-20 season opens. Unfortunately for the Wildcats, that is a result of a recruiting loss.
UK has one of the best recruiting classes in the country coming in, once again. The group ranks No. 2 overall in the country.
Calipari inked three five-star players—guard Tyrese Maxey and wings Kahlil Whitney and Keion Brooks—as well as a pair of four-star wings in Johnny Juzang and Dontaie Allen. It should be a pretty rangy, athletic group.
Still, a lot of the focus of this recruiting cycle was paid to the guys that Coach Cal and his assistants couldn’t get, including Memphis-bound No. 1 recruit James Wiseman.
Big men were elusive for Kentucky, and that came to fruition again Tuesday, when the final outstanding UK recruit, five-star center N’Faly Dante, reclassified up to 2019 and committed to Oregon.

As a result, we know what Kentucky’s roster looks like.
Barring an unforeseen change, here are the players that will make up the 2019-20 Kentucky Wildcats:
0. Ashton Hagans, PG, So.
1. Nate Sestina, F, Grad.
2. Kahlil Whitney, F, Fr.
3. Tyrese Maxey, G, Fr.
4. Nick Richards, PF, Jr.
5. Immanuel Quickley, G, So.
10. Johnny Juzang, G/F, Fr.
11. Dontaie Allen, F, Fr.
12. Keion Brooks, F, Fr.
14. Brennan Canada, F, Fr.
21. Zan Payne, G, R-Fr.
23. EJ Montgomery, F, So.
Richards, Montgomery, and graduate transfer Sestina make up basically all of the bulk in the middle for extremely wing-heavy Kentucky. It’s a talented group for sure, but may not have the balanced roster construction that Calipari was looking for to start the year.
Still, it will be hard not to see the ‘Cats as a favorite out of the SEC, especially with some solid experience and a bunch of new blue chip players.
