Kentucky Escapes Texas A&M in Overtime

Another win for Kentucky.

Score: Kentucky 72, Texas A&M 68

Star(s): UK: Nerlens Noel 19 Pts, 14 Reb, 3 Ast, 1 Stl, 2 Blk. A&M Ray Turner 12 Pts, 11 Reb, 1 Ast, 3 Blk.

Story: Kentucky wins an ugly SEC game on the road.

After Texas A&M's Elston Turner embarrassed Kentucky at Rupp when he scored 40 points, the Cats knew they had to get revenge in College Station. The Cats led all of regulation but turned the ball over four straight possessions down the stretch, allowing A&M to send the game into overtime when Turner hit a two-point basket with 1.4 seconds left.

Julius Mays was the main factor in UK pulling out the game in overtime. He had a career-high 19 points and hit clutch free throws to help UK maintain its lead. With 15.8 seconds left, Mays made two free throws pushing the lead to 71-68. On A&M's final possession, Turner launched an NBA-length three-pointer that rattled out.

Not only was this a must-win for the young Cats, but it also served as a test to how the Cats can perform under pressure and on the road.

The Wildcats have two consecutive home games against South Carolina on Tuesday and against Auburn on Saturday.

Although, it did help that the Cats were playing in a sea of blue. According to Jimmy Dykes, "that's the power of the Big Blue Nation."
