After beating then-No. 1 Michigan State and Eastern Kentucky last week, Kentucky was christened the new top-ranked team in America this week. They are already struggling in their first game as No. 1.
At halftime tonight at Rupp Arena, the Wildcats trail Evansville 34-30. It has been a rough first half for Kentucky’s offense.
The Wildcats shot just 9-for-26 from the field and committed 11 turnovers in the first 20 minutes. Guards Ashton Hagans and Tyrese Maxey haven’t played up to par, though backcourt counterpart Immanuel Quickley is keeping the ‘Cats afloat with nine points and six rebounds.
For the plucky Aces, who were 25-point underdogs entering the game, former Kansas and Arizona State shooting guard Sam Cunliffe is showing why he was once a high major player. Cunliffe has a game-high 15 points on 6-of-9 from the field.
#1 Kentucky 30
Couldn't have gone much better for the Aces, who are 25-point underdogs.

More than likely, Kentucky will snap out of its funk when the second half gets underway and win this game by double-digits. This sort of scenario plays out for every elite team at least a couple of times a season.
However, the longer the Purple Aces stay in the game, the more confident they will become and the more uneasy the home crowd will get.
