Kentucky forward Derek Willis was arrested in Union, Ky., on Saturday for public intoxication.
According to the Courier-Journal's Jon Hale, Willis was found drunk "laying in the middle of the street." Additional details from the arrest citation obtained by Hale don't exactly paint a pretty picture either.
The deputy arrived to find Willis on the ground outside the open driver’s side door of a vehicle and reported a “strong odor of associated with alcohol” coming from the inside of the vehicle and Willis.
The deputy reported Willis said he had “a lot“ to drink and could not advise where he was other than to say in “northern Kentucky” after being woken up. The citation reports Willis had extremely slurred speech, was unsteady on his feet and “was a danger to himself and others.”
Not an ideal situation for Willis, who is just a few days shy of his 21st birthday on June 21.
Last season, Willis received extended minutes for the first time in his career, averaging 7.7 points and 4.0 rebounds in 18.6 minutes per contest. He hit on 44.2 percent of his three-point attempts and reached double-figures 11 times, including a 25-point effort against Tennessee.
