A Top NBA Draft Prospect Told The Cavs He Didn't Want To Play For Them

A general view of the Cleveland cavaliers basketball court.

Kentucky point guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is expected to be a lottery pick during tonight's NBA Draft. Where he winds up remains a question until later.

One place it seems Gilgeous-Alexander won't be is Cleveland. The Cavs tried to do their due diligence on the one-and-done guard, but he didn't seem to reciprocate the interest.

According to ESPN's Brian Windhorst, Gilgeous-Alexander not only refused to work out for Cleveland, but told the team he didn't want to be there.

The Cavs own the No. 8 pick tonight.

At first glance, this seems strange of Gilgeous-Alexander. Perhaps he figures LeBron James is leaving Cleveland and he doesn't want to be a part of the rebuilding process in the aftermath.

Either way, prospects turning down workouts or brushing off teams usually isn't a great look.

The 2018 NBA Draft will be held tonight at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Television coverage begins at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN.
