The quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament will take place later today, as the Kentucky Wildcats battle the Alabama Crimson Tide. It’ll be the second meeting of the season for these two programs, and the winner will face Tennessee or Mississippi State in the semifinals.
Alabama is coming off the upset victory over Ole Miss in the previous round in large part because of Tevin Mack. He’ll need a repeat performance to keep his team in striking distance of knocking off Kentucky.
John Calipari usually has his team playing his best basketball of the year around March. With Reid Travis expected to play in limited action off the bench, the Wildcats should be at full strength.
Kentucky lost is only matchup of the season with Alabama, but it’s fair to say the team was still dealing with growing pains. Now, PJ Washington and Tyler Herro are one of the best duos in the entire conference.
The true difference over the past few months is how the Wildcats play defense. Once Ashton Hagans and Nick Richards saw more time on the hardwood, the unit saw drastic improvements.
We’ll see if the extra rest has Kentucky full of energy for today’s showdown or rusty from the start.
Fun day today. But just getting started here at the #SECTourney
