Kentucky and Florida open their conference slates with a meeting in Gainesville. Kentucky’s resurgence under Mark Stoops is underway as the Wildcats already have matched their win total from 2013. That being said, the team started the season off with wins at home against UT Martin and Ohio, so this weekend will be their first real test of the season.
Florida started its season off with a 65-0 win over Eastern Michigan after its game against Idaho was cancelled due to weather. It was the Gators’ first win since last October and ended a seven-game losing streak.

Prediction: A big part of Kentucky’s early success has been the play of sophomore quarterback Patrick Towles. He has thrown for 547 yards and two touchdowns in the first two games. Towles needs continue his strong play against a talented Florida defense.
You can’t put much stock in Florida’s game last week, because the Gators were playing one of the weakest opponents in the MAC. One thing to note was Jeff Driskel’s solid return after missing most of last season with an ankle injury. Driskel threw for 248 yards and a touchdown in his first action in almost a year.
Florida might be looking ahead to next week’s game at Alabama. It’s a tough spot for the Gators and for Will Muschamp to have his team focused on the Wildcats, but the trash talk between the two has probably helped a bit. Both defenses have played well so far and a low-scoring game is a possibility this week. We’ll take Florida to win the game, but Kentucky to cover the point spread.
