Report: Donovan Told Friend That Losing Recruiting Battle With Kentucky Was "Wearing On Him"

Thursday morning, Florida's Billy Donovan officially left the Gators for the NBA, agreeing to become head coach of the Oklahoma City Thunder. While Donovan had tremendous success in Gainesville, he reportedly was weary of losing the conference recruiting war with Kentucky, according to ESPN's Ian O'Connor.

For his career, Donovan was 17-27 against the 'Cats. His Gators won all three match-ups between the two programs in 2013-14 before dropping a trio of games this season.

Does this report hold water, or was Donovan just ready to move on to the next level after a remarkable 19-year run at UF? It's doubtful we'll ever get a clear answer.
