Kentucky coach Mark Stoops isn't just proving himself to be a great recruiter for the Wildcats, but a class act as well. Stoops, upon hearing the tragic news of UK recruit DeAntre Turman's death this weekend, has Kentucky's staff reaching out to the NCAA to apply for a waiver so that the school can formally offer the late high school player.
“We're asking for some options on things that we're allowed to do, whether we could just send — you know, we're not normally allowed to mail an offer letter to somebody that age. We'd like to do that. Maybe the father would like to have that as a memento.”
For reference, Stoops believes that UK was the first school to offer Turman.
It's an honorable gesture from Stoops and the UK program for sure. Let's just hope the NCAA doesn't provide any unnecessary roadblocks.
