Kentucky point guard Tyler Ulis has been hoping to hear his name called fairly early in next week’s NBA Draft, but according to a report, a hip issue could put a crimp in Ulis’ plans.
Per Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders, the 5-foot-9 playmaker may be suffering from a “pretty significant” hip issue, which may lead to surgery and could cause him to fall in drafts.
Kentucky guard Tyler Ulis is said to have a pretty significant hip issue, which some believe may require surgery down the line. A medical red flag combined with his size, Ulis could slide deep into the first round or even over into the second depending on how team medical staffs view his situation.
As a sophomore, Ulis averaged 17.3 points and 7.0 assists per game last season, but concerns about his size have likely hampered his draft status. The latest mock draft from NBADraft.net has Ulis going 36th overall, while an updated mock from Draft Express pegs him as the 34th pick.
Meanwhile, this afternoon’s CBSSports mock from Sam Vecenie has Ulis sneaking into the first round at No. 29. It will be interesting to see how chatter about his hip factors into his draft stock.
