Video: John Calipari Takes Shot At Dick Vitale After Criticism Of Platoon System: "He Got Fired As A Coach"

While fans have very differing opinions on ESPN's Dick Vitale, he is almost universally regarded as one of the most beloved people in college basketball by others in the sport. That didn't keep Kentucky coach John Calipari from taking a bit of a low blow at the famous analyst. Vitale has been critical of Calipari's platoon system, which he doesn't believe the Wildcats will be able to run against the nation's best teams. During halftime of last night's 86-37 decimation of Missouri, Calipari brought up Vitale's coaching history when acknowledging the criticism.

Calipari's shot as Vitale isn't exactly fair, either. Dickie V was 79-29 in four years at University of Detroit, leading the team to a 26-3 record and a Sweet Sixteen berth in his final season before moving on to coach the Detroit Pistons. The NBA was less kind to Vitale, and he was fired after a 34-60 record over two years, but Calipari's NBA experience wasn't much better. Calipari coach the New Jersey Nets from 1996-99, posting a dreary 72-112 record. After a 3-17 start in his final season in New Jersey, Calipari was fired... just like Vitale.
