Ahead of every college football season, there are teams that people predict huge for. In 2015, Ohio State had everyone’s attention follow the Buckeyes’ national championship, with many of the team’s stars returning. OSU put together a 12-1 record with a big bowl win over Notre Dame, and yet, few would argue that Ohio State got everything it could out of its talent. Overrated? We’re not sure, but the Buckeyes did not reach the astronomical expectations placed on them ahead of the year.
Still, the Buckeyes would definitely have a “disappointing” 12-1 season with a New Year’s Six win than what happened to Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets were one of the big surprises of the 2014 season, and entered 2015 as the ACC Coastal favorite. Paul Johnson’s team went 3-9, with the lone ACC win coming in a stunner against Florida State.
Like clockwork, in every college football season, there will be some programs with massive expectations, that fall well short when the actual games roll around. We’re still a few months from the first kickoff of 2016, but there already some teams garnering a ton of hype. We can’t blame fans for getting excited, but some of these teams are probably not quite ready to become College Football Playoff contenders, and some just aren’t as good as some believe.
Here are the five teams that we believe will be overrated as the college football season begins.
