LSU and Alabama football are both off this weekend, in anticipation of their giant SEC West match-up on Nov. 3 at Tiger Stadium.

Everyone expected Alabama to be in the mix this year, but the Crimson Tide have somehow managed to look more dominant than expected. Typically a defense-oriented powerhouse, Alabama has what is probably the best offense in the country.

LSU has surprised most people this year, with an excellent defense and an opportunistic offense. The Tigers are out to a 7-1 start.

LSU head coach Ed Orgeron was asked about his Alabama football counterpart Nick Saban today, and has nothing but praise.

Saban is on the short list for greatest college football coaches of all time. Coach O didn't hesitate to call him that outright.

From The Advocate:

"Alabama's always been the benchmark," Orgeron said. "Coach (Nick) Saban's done a fantastic job. He's going to go down as the greatest college football coach in the history of the game. So give him the credit, what they've done at Alabama. And we've got to beat them to get where we want to go. That's the fact."

He went on to call Alabama quarterback and Heisman favorite Tua Tagovailoa "the best player in college football," so yeah, the Crimson Tide have a lot going for them.

LSU has not defeated Alabama since the 2011 regular season, in a memorable 9-6 slugfest. The Crimson Tide got their revenge in the BCS National Championship a few months later, blowing out the Tigers 21-0.
