With a win over Georgia in the upcoming SEC Championship Game, LSU would secure a spot in the College Football Playoff. There’s a chance the Tigers could get in even with a loss, too.
But don’t tell LSU head coach Ed Orgeron that.
Speaking to the media on Monday, Orgeron would not entertain the possibility of getting in with a loss. He made it clear that the only mindset LSU has is to win the SEC Championship Game.
Via Saturday Down South:
“I ain’t even thinking about that,” Orgeron said at his Monday press conference. “I don’t buy that. We’ve got to win. That’s not coming into play. Not even considering that.”
LSU is eyeing their first SEC title since 2011. They went 12-0 in the regular season but now head into Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, where the Georgia Bulldogs will basically have a home-field advantage.
That isn’t to say LSU looks overmatched – quite the contrary. The Tigers have huge wins over the likes of Texas, Auburn, Florida, and of course Alabama.
But there have been enough conference championship upsets for Coach O to be justifiably concerned solely on winning this weekend.
Even so, it will be pretty interesting to see if LSU does somehow get into the College Football Playoff if they lose the SEC title.
