The Round of 32 begins today in the NCAA Tournament as Maryland will battle LSU. Both teams are coming off nail-biting victories in the opening round of March Madness.
Maryland beat Belmont in one of the best games of the tournament thus far. Bruno Fernando and Jalen Smith were sensational with 33 points and 25 rebounds combined.
LSU found itself in a close contest with Yale, but ultimately its size and length was too much for the Ivy League champions to overcome. Naz Reid had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds in his first taste of tournament action.
One issue for the Terrapins is their lack of explosive playmaking in the backcourt. Perhaps the Tigers can find success in that department because of Tremont Waters and Ja’vonte Smart.
It’s very possible that the winner of this showdown will be the team that dominates the boards, and it appears the slight edge in that department goes to LSU.
According to ESPN’s matchup predictor, the Tigers have a 54.3 percent chance of advancing to the next round.
Tipoff is set for 12:10 p.m. ET from VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena.
Winner punches its ticket to the Sweet 16 with a chance to face either Minnesota or Michigan State.
It should be an excellent weekend of college hoops.
