LSU will once again be the No. 1 team in the country when the updated College Football Playoff rankings are revealed tonight. Paul Finebaum doesn’t think they will be there for long though.
Appearing on Get Up! today, Finebaum predicted that this will be the final week for the Tigers in the top spot. His statement is contingent on Ohio State beating Penn State on Saturday though.
“Next week, if Ohio State beats Penn State, LSU goes down,” Finebaum said.
The radio host would go on to warn his fellow panelist and former LSU star Marcus Spears that the Tigers’ leaky defense is a “troublesome sign” moving forward.
Finebaum is “probably” right about the committee making Ohio State No. 1 if they beat Penn State this weekend. However, if LSU wins out, they should be the top team in the final rankings.
Even if Ohio State also finishes 13-0, LSU will have wins over Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia and Texas, which would trump the Buckeyes’ beatings of Michigan, Indiana, Penn State, Wisconsin and Cincinnati.
The new CFP rankings will be unveiled at 7 p.m. ET tonight on ESPN.
