The College Football Playoff field and matchups were set over the weekend, and by-and-large it’s being received very positively. Even Paul Finebaum didn’t seem too miffed with how the arrangement ultimately worked out.
In his weekly radio spot on WJOX, Finebaum considered it the right move for the Selection Committee to let LSU jump Ohio State for the No. 1 spot. He pointed to their dominance over Georgia combined with Ohio State’s first-half struggles against Wisconsin as evidence that it was the right move.
Finebaum declared that LSU is “the best team in the country” and called on anyone who doubted that to “take a seat.”
Via Saturday Tradition:
“It’s an eye test. You’re sitting there, you’re watching LSU eviscerate Georgia with one of the best defenses in the country, and the other team [Ohio State] struggled,” Finebaum said during his weekly appearance on WJOX The RoundTable. “The point is who’s the best team in the country and even though it’s gone back and forth for eight weeks, LSU’s the best team in the country. Anyone who thinks they’re not can take a seat. You’ll have five or six weeks to prove that you were right.”
Given his well-known adoration of the SEC, it really comes as no surprise at all that Finebaum thinks they got it right.
One can only imagine what kind of a stink Finebaum would have raised had the Selection Committee kept Ohio State at No. 1…
LSU will now face Oklahoma – a team that’s 0-2 against SEC teams in the CFB Playoff – in the Peach Bowl later this month.
