Report: LSU To Fire Head Coach Johnny Jones After SEC Tournament

The Tigers are going to fire men's basketball coach Johnny Jones.

A year after coaching the future No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft - a year that didn't result in an NCAA Tournament berth - Johnny Jones is going to be fired at LSU.

NOLA.com is reporting that LSU is going to part ways with Jones following the SEC Tournament.

From their report:

Multiple sources with knowledge of the situation told The Times-Picayune that Jones will be fired after the upcoming SEC Tournament. The Tigers play Mississippi State on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the opening game of the tournament.

Jones has been on the hot seat since the end of last season but LSU's performance this year hasn't done anything to help. LSU is 10-20 this season with a 2-16 record in conference play.

Jones, who played for LSU, has recruited well for the Tigers - including landing No. 1 recruit Ben Simmons - but it hasn't really resulted in much success. LSU has made the NCAA Tournament just once in his five years leading the program. He's 89-70 overall as the leader of the Baton Rouge, La. program.
