The No. 8 Kentucky Wildcats are starting to develop into a true contender this season, as last weekend's win over the Auburn Tigers sent an emphatic statement to the rest of the SEC.

Even though Kentucky squandered its double-digit lead in the second half, Keldon Johnson and Tyler Herro showed their ability to knock down jumpers in crunch time. Both guards had 20 points each to lead the team to victory.

John Calipari will need the same effort from his team tonight when the Wildcats host the No. 22 Mississippi State Bulldogs.

The Wildcats are currently in the midst of playing three AP Top 25 opponents in a row.

Mississippi State is coming off back-to-back wins over Vanderbilt and Florida, but the team currently owns a 2-2 record in conference play.

It'll be tough to envision the Bulldogs upsetting the Wildcats in Lexington tonight. Nonetheless, the three top scorers for Mississippi State are all upperclassmen, which means the hostile atmosphere shouldn't affect them too much.

Kentucky would keep pace with Tennessee and LSU in the conference standings with another victory, while also improving its overall resume for the NCAA tournament.

Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. ET from Rupp Arena.

Karl Ravech and Dick Vitale will call the action on ESPN.
