Bowl season was marred on Thursday, as the Armed Forces Bowl between Mississippi State and Tulsa devolved into a really nasty brawl. The incident was nasty on both sides, though one Mississippi State player really ratcheted things up by kicking a Tulsa player on the ground.
Overall, people were pretty disgusted about how things played out. Mike Leach’s response to the situation didn’t draw rave reviews either. He downplayed the situation more than anyone else.
Plenty have called for punishments for the two programs going forward. ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit, one of the leading voices in college football, called it a “black eye” for the sport.
Former WFAN host Mike Francesa wasn’t shy about his thoughts at all. He thinks that both teams should have a bowl ban for next season, as a result of what transpired.
Ban Miss State and Tulsa from bowl participation next season. Both sides embarrassed themselves with the fight and even more after the fight.

“You know there was something before the game too, we’ve never had any problem with that the entire season so, you know I can only guess without seeing the film but I know that prior to this game we’ve never had any trouble with that,” Leach said after the game, when asked about the brawl.
“Don’t do it anymore,” Leach continued, when asked about what he’d tell his team. “I mean, yeah, well, it’s just dumb you know.”
Mississippi State notched its fourth win in year one under Leach with the 28-26 Armed Forces Bowl victory. Tulsa fell to 6-3.
