Video: New MSU Basketball Coach Ben Howland Threw Out The First Pitch For The Bulldogs Baseball Team Tuesday

Ben Howland throws out first pitch at Mississippi State.

Monday, Mississippi State officially hired Ben Howland as its new basketball coach, replacing Rick Ray, who was let go earlier in the month following three subpar seasons. Tuesday, Howland, who previously coached at Northern Arizona, Pittsburgh and UCLA, was already on campus to partake in school-related activities. Howland's first move? To throw out the first pitch for the school's baseball team.

It's a bit disappointing that Howland didn't even throw the ball from the actual mound, but we suppose that MSU's brass is a little more concerned about his basketball coaching abilities.

Howland inherits a program that hasn't reached the NCAA Tournament since 2009. It'll be interesting to see how he does in an up-and-coming SEC.
