Charles Barkley Made Fun Of SEC Fan Bases On ESPN Radio Friday

Charles Barkley is always a colorful speaker any time he's near a microphone. Friday afternoon was just another example of that.

Appearing on ESPN Radio's "Russillo and Kanell" Show, Barkley touched on the Golden State Warriors-Oklahoma City Warriors series, Steph Curry and his interview with Dwight Howard last week. But it was when he got to discussing SEC fans that he made his mark.

Barkley, a former Auburn basketball star, was asked about co-host Danny Kanell's "hatred" for the SEC, and he went on to unleash some typically funny Chuck quotes.

“I think that the SEC kind of makes you hate it because the fans are so obnoxious. I can understand why people don’t like the SEC. I think clearly its by far the best football conference in the world and I think Danny [Kanell] will admit that. But I will admit this, the fans are the most obnoxious people. Alabama fans are the worst. Then you factor in Georgia fans — they’re awful — Florida, LSU fans.

“I think Nick Saban is the greatest coach of all time in my opinion, and when I tell Alabama fans they’re the most obnoxious fans in in the world you know what they say to me? They don’t even say, ‘No we’re not.’ They say, ‘We’re not as bad as those LSU fans.’ They never take the time to say, ‘We’re not the most obnoxious fans.’ They never try to defend themselves. When they say, ‘We’re not nearly as bad as those LSU fans,’ they let you know just how bad they are."

Barkley did take a shot at Kanell's alma mater, saying that Florida State plays "in a girl conference" with "one hard game a year." He also praised the SEC programs for making it tough for opponents to come in and beat them at home even when they are down, and showed some love to Ole Miss, Mississippi State and others for improving their teams recently.

You can listen to the full Barkley interview here, beginning at roughly the 9:00 mark.
