Mizzou Beats LSU In The Battle Of The Tigers

Double bye on the horizon?

Score: Missouri 89, LSU 76

Stars: Missouri: Laurence Bowers 23 Pts, 10 Reb, 2 Ast. LSU: Anthony Hickey 22 Pts, 3 Reb, 2 Stl.

Story: The Missouri basketball team beat LSU at home, finishing off a perfect week for Tigers hoops. LSU gave Missouri trouble at the beginning of the game, especially with its 3-point shooting. Missouri struggled to cover the long ball and LSU tried to ride that to an upset. Fortunately for Mizzou, it wasn't enough. Missouri's defense got itself together in the second half and took a double-digit lead, which the Tigers kept for the remainder of the game.

The past two games, Missouri has had a new philosophy on offense that seems to be a turning point for the team, especially with the SEC and NCAA tournaments approaching. Mizzou is now playing from the inside out, relying on its two big men, Laurence Bowers and Alex Oriakhi. Both players had double-doubles, but Bowers was the high scorer. Missouri will rely on him heavily to make a deep run in the postseason.

Two crucial games remain for Missouri as the team eyes a fourth seed in the SEC tournament and a double-bye that comes with it. Mizzou must win both to have any chance. Missouri's next game is at home on Tuesday against its new conference rival, Arkansas. The game will also be Senior Night for Laurence Bowers, Keion Bell, and Alex Oriakhi as they play their last home game in a Mizzou uniform. Emotions will be high; former Missouri coach Mike Anderson will be returning to the Mizzou Arena for the first time since his departure.
