Quick Prediction: Auburn vs. Clemson

Clemson is a tough. Auburn needs to make a statement.

The Auburn Tigers need to make a statement to the rest of the SEC West. With powerhouse teams like LSU, Alabama, and Arkansas in Auburn’s division, the Tigers really need to start their season off right with a crucial win over Clemson.

Auburn has returned to an SEC-style offense, venturing away from the style of Gus Malzahn. Key offensive players like quarterback Kieh Frazier, tight end Philip Lutzenkirchen, running back Ontario McCalebb, and wide receivers Emory Blake and Travante Stallworth will need to step up and make some big plays.

Former Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator, Brian VanGorder, has polished the young defense, strengthening the skills of Demetruce McNeal and Corey Lemoiner. A key for the Auburn defense is keeping Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd and wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins from hooking up for big yardage. The Tigers also need to keep an eye on Andre Ellington, Clemson’s premier running back, who could stir up some serious trouble for the Auburn defense. Auburn does catch a break, however, from the two-game suspension of Clemson’s wide receiver Sammy Watkins.

This is a tough match up with neither team playing on its home turf. In Atlanta’s Georgia Dome, with Auburn as the home team, the game will be a close call.

Final Prediction: Auburn 24, Clemson 21
