5 South Carolina Basketball Players Suspended Indefinitely Ahead Of NIT

Due to a weak strength of schedule, the 24-8 South Carolina Gamecocks were left out of the 2016 NCAA Tournament field, and are a No. 1 seed in the NIT. In the tournament's opener against High Point, the Gamecocks will be without five players, who have been suspended indefinitely. Frank Martin announced the suspension this afternoon.

All five players are reserves for the Gamecocks. Chris Silva averages 5.4 points and 4.5 rebounds in 13 minutes per game, while Stroman plays almost 15 minutes per game, and averages 2.3 points and two rebounds. None are huge losses for the 'Cocks, but any time five players are all suspended from a baketball team, it is pretty significant.

South Carolina opens NIT play tonight against High Point at 7 p.m. ET.
