Report: 4-Star JuCo Running Back Tyren Jones Won't Sign With South Carolina Due To Academic Issues

Update: Jones tells The State that he plans to enroll at South Carolina this summer, after graduating from Hutchinson. The NCAA is also looking into his transfer from Alabama to the community college.

“I just know I am scheduled to graduate in May, and I am talking to the NCAA,” Jones said. “Once I graduate, then everything will be OK. I am probably going to come in the summer.”

The NCAA is reviewing the paperwork from Jones’ transfer from the Crimson Tide to Hutchinson in 2015. He was kicked off the team at Alabama in March following an arrest on the charge of marijuana possession. At the time of his arrest, he had been under suspension for a month for a violation of team rules.

Earlier: One of the top players in South Carolina's 2016 recruiting class will not make it to Columbia, according to a report. Tyren Jones, a former Alabama running back that spent his 2015 season at Hutchinson Community College, will not sign with the Gamecocks due to academic issues, per 247Sports.

According to sources, South Carolina will not sign three-star running back Tyren Jones (Marietta, Ga./Hutchinson CC) due to academic issues.

Jones ran for 224 yards and two touchdowns as a freshman at Alabama before being dismissed from the program. As a high school recruit, he was the No. 9 running back in his class.

Without Jones, South Carolina has 23 players in its 2016 class, with two days until National Signing Day.
