The Everett Golson sweepstakes is officially underway, and from the looks of it, there are going to be a number of suitorsfor the former Notre Dame quarterback. While most will likely pursue the former Irish starting signal-caller quietly, it looks like the South Carolina Gamecocks have no problem making it known that they're in the market. Yesterday, a number of Gamecocks players, including Bryson Allen-Williams, openly campaigned for their program to land Golson on Twitter. Now, via Bleacher Report's Barrett Sallee, it's being reported that South Carolina is interested in the fifth-year quarterback.
A source inside the South Carolina program told Bleacher Report that the program is interested in Golson and that Golson's camp has known of the school's interest in the quarterback since December. However, South Carolina has not been in touch with Golson since he officially announced that he is leaving Notre Dame, and it is likely that the rising senior is still working through the proper release paperwork.
South Carolina likely won't be the only SEC program to be interested in Golson's services - teams like LSU, Florida, Alabama and Georgia have needs at quarterback as well. It'll be interesting to see where he lands, especially since Golson himself is from the state of South Carolina.
