Despite being announced as the head coach of the South Carolina Gamecocks a few weeks ago, Shane Beamer was in Dallas this weekend to help the Oklahoma Sooners win the Big 12 Championship.
Beamer has been an assistant coach for the Sooners since the 2018 season. The Gamecocks were impressed with his work to the point where they decided he was the right candidate for their job opening.
Shortly after Oklahoma’s win this afternoon, Beamer had a special message to share for South Carolina fans.
“Gamecock Nation, awesome day here in Dallas,” Beamer said. “Celebrating a Big 12 Championship. Thanks for understanding why it was so important for me to come back and finish this thing with my guys. I cannot wait to get to Columbia tomorrow and get this thing rolling with you guys. Hope to be in Atlanta and expect to be in Atlanta with you guys soon celebrating like we’re doing out here on the field right now. Thank you.”
To make a long story short, Beamer believes he’ll lead South Carolina to an SEC title at some point during his tenure.

It’s tough to judge Beamer without knowing what he’s capable of as a head coach, but he has support from a handful of elite coaches, including Dabo Swinney.
“He’s our rival and all that type of stuff, but have a lot of respect for him as a man, father, husband and football coach,” Swinney replied when asked about South Carolina’s hire. “I think they hired a good man.”
Beamer will try to get South Carolina back on the map in 2021.
