Look: Shane Beamer Jokes About What Came In The Mail

Shane Beamer is preparing for his first season as a college football head coach, taking over the South Carolina Gamecocks. He got some interesting mail at his new house in Columbia today.

Beamer shared a photo of a mailing he received from hated rival Clemson for the school's 2021 "Give Day." I don't know that the school is going to get the return it had hoped on that one particular mailer.

"Yeah, I think you guys are going to have to count me OUT this year," Beamer joked. It's a pretty great response for this funny situation, playing off Clemson's "All In" mantra.

It sounds like the previous owner of the house was probably a Clemson graduate or fan, because Shane Beamer has no connection there. The son of legendary Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer, he previously coached under Steve Spurrier at South Carolina from 2007-10, before joining his father with the Hokies, and then spending time at Georgia and Oklahoma. Before his first tenure in Columbia, he worked at Mississippi State, and was a graduate assistant at Tennessee and Georgia Tech.

The Gamecocks are hoping that Beamer can bring some of the magic of those Spurrier years back to Columbia. During the heart of the Ol' Ball Coach's run with South Carolina football, the Gamecocks absolutely dominated Clemson, winning five straight games in the series from 2009-13. He knows just how important it is to get the Gamecocks back to competing with the Tigers, that have turned into a true national superpower since the last time South Carolina got the best of their Upstate rivals. From his introductory press conference in December:

“You mentioned that program in the Upstate, they’re certainly on a pretty good run right now, but when I was here before, we were on a pretty dang good run ourselves against those guys as well. It’s a big challenge and we’re going to work every single day in recruiting, in this facility to have a team that we can be proud of on the field, and that will result with the way we play on the field. Certainly great respect for those guys, but looking forward to getting in there and competing, I know that for a fact.”

We'll see if Beamer has something for the Clemson Tigers later this year, but it won't be a donation. [
