South Carolina Lands 2nd Commitment Of The Day, Defensive End Tyreek Johnson

South Carolina's staff has had a pretty good Saturday morning. Earlier, the Gamecocks picked up a commitment from offensive tackle Eric Douglas out of Charlotte. That would prove to be one of at least two commitments for SC today, as defensive end Tyreek Johnson made his pledge to Will Muschamp shortly thereafter.

The three-star defensive end is the eighth member of South Carolina's class, and the fourth to come from in state. He spoke to Rivalsabout how he fits in with the program.

"The work ethic and a fast paced, physical football team fits me," Johnson said. "It's where I actually fit in. I'm soon gonna be a part of that team and family."

He is also impressed with the new coaching staff.

Johnson was recruited to the Gamecocks by outside linebackers coach Mike Peterson.

"He's funny, energetic and that's the type of person I would most likely like to be like one day," Johnson said. "And I just look up to him. He's a great guy on and off the field. He'll help you if you need it."

He also has a strong relationship with head coach Will Mushamp and the rest of the USC coaches.

"The coaches are very energetic, and confident about what they have going on there," Johnson said. "I'm also very confident about this team. But they would put me in a position where they best need me."
