Steve Spurrier has denied a Scout.com report claiming the South Carolina coach has hired former Florida coach Will Muschamp to be his defensive coordinator.
According to GamecockPride.com, Muschamp has agreed to terms with the Gamecocks to be their new defensive coordinator. The report says Muschamp will make between $1.6 and $1.9 million a season and was intrigued by the “opportunity to be South Carolina’s head coach when Spurrier retires.”
Spurrier, 69, addressed that report this morning. He says it’s not true.
Re: Website report, Steve Spurrier: “No, I haven’t hired Will. … I haven’t really talked to anybody about additions (to staff).”

While it might still be a possibility that Muschamp could end up as South Carolina’s defensive coordinator, it doesn’t appear that it’s been discussed. Muschamp is reportedly on vacation and won’t be making any decisions about his future until next week.
