Xavier Thomas is the No. 1 player in the state of South Carolina in the class of 2018... for now. He will transfer to Florida's IMG Academy, but plans to make a return home for college.
Thomas took to Twitter to make two big announcements regarding his football future.
1.) He will transfer to Florida high school football powerhouse IMG Academy for his final year.
2.) He will return to South Carolina for his high school ball, and is down to Clemson and South Carolina as his finalists.
His full note, from the tweet:
"I appreciate all the schools and coaches who have recruited me. Leaving My Home, My Family and My State to attend IMG makes it hard to LEAVE. BUT it Makes it an even easier matter when it is time to return to my Home, My Family and MY STATE once I Graduate from IMG. So, after much talk with my parents. I am committing to returning to MY HOME STATE of SOUTH CAROLINA to play for either USC or Clemson. I do not know which school I will be attending yet. That is a decision that I will make next year after following both schools athletic programs progress, accessing each schools educational opportunities and more importantly after careful consideration of my family's feedback. I also would like to take the moment to give a special thanks to my GrandDad, GrandMom, Aunt JoAnn, my parents, and the rest of my amazing family for ALWAYS being there for me no matter what. God Bless!"
Thomas had also previously considered Florida State, Ohio State, and has offers from numerous others. 247Sports ranks him as the No. 2 player in the class of 2018, and the No. 1 defensive end.
South Carolina and Clemson are hated rivals on the field already. This head-to-head recruiting battle for Xavier Thomas manages to heat things up even further.
