It’s been a terrific start to the college basketball season. Unlike college football which featured minimal games between ranked opponents in 2019, college hoops is offering plenty of intriguing contests between ranked teams. This Saturday, No. 13 Memphis travels to Knoxville to face No. 19 Tennessee.
Penny Hardaway’s team is arguably the most talented in the country. But inexperience hurt the Tigers once already this season. Memphis is 8-1 through nine games this year, its lone loss coming against an experienced Oregon team a month ago.
The Tigers have certainly bounced back from that defeat, rattling off six straight wins since then.
Unfortunately, James Wiseman will not play on Saturday as he continues to serve his suspension handed down by the NCAA. That’s certainly a break for the Volunteers.
Tennessee is 7-1, going 2-0 against ranked opponents this season. The Volunteers took care of business against Washington and VCU, two of their toughest tests so far.
Memphis will the most talented team Tennessee has faced this season though. The in-state rivalry will feature plenty of intriguing battles on Saturday.
