Tennessee has dismissed senior defensive tackle Danny O'Brien for a violation of team rules.
The decision comes just two days after O'Brien suffered a major injury scare in the loss to Texas A&M. He was immobilized and stretchered off the field, but was released from the hospital the same night and released a statement on Twitter yesterday.
According to UT, O'Brien's dismissal is unrelated to his injury, but the school will provide assistance with any further care he may need.
O'Brien, a native of Flint, Mich., was a multi-year starter for the Vols. In six games this season, he recorded 14 tackles, including three for loss.
O'Brien's best season came in 2014, when he compiled 23 tackles.
