Tennessee Releases Honorary Pat Summitt Helmet Decal

Today, the Tennessee Volunteers released their honorary Pat Summitt helmet decal.

Vols head coach Butch Jones announced last Saturday that the team intends to honor Summitt this season with helmet stickers. The special Pat Summitt helmet decal, revealed this morning on the Vols' athletic department Twitter account, features an encircled capital “P." This design is accordingly based on the way Summitt signed her name in her signature.

The Vols also put out a video for the Summitt decals.

Summitt is the winningest college basketball coach of all time - including both men’s and women’s programs - with a total of 1,098 victories and eight national titles. Under her brilliant leadership, lasting from 1974-2012, the Lady Vols won 16 SEC regular season titles and 16 tournament titles. Additionally, her teams made an appearance in every NCAA Tournament from 1982 until her retirement, advancing to the Sweet 16 every year except 2009 and appearing 18 times in the Final Four.

Summitt stepped down in 2012, a year after she made her Alzheimer’s diagnosis public. She died on June 28.

The Vols open at their season at home against Appalachian State on Thursday.
