Tennessee just landed its highest-rated recruit in two recruiting cycles with 6-foot-6 Yves Pons' commitment to the Vols.
Tennessee basketball has been mediocre at best this year, but Vols fans definitely have a lot to be excited about next year. According to 247 Sports, Yves Pons, a 4-star recruit from Paris, France, has committed to Tennessee.
The explosive, 6-foot-6 wing chose the Vols over Florida and Texas Tech, the two other schools he visited in December. He's the No. 22 ranked small forward in the 2017 class, and the No. 112 ranked player overall, according to 247 Sports.
He's the highest-rated recruit that Tennessee has brought in in the last two recruiting cycles, and he's definitely a prospect to keep an eye on. Watch him dunk all over everyone in the FIBA U17 World Championships last summer:
Yeah, not bad. Not bad, indeed. According to his DraftExpress profile, Pons is “ridiculously powerful and explosive” with the ability to pull off “in-game dunks you might expect to see in a dunk contest.” He's also a "versatile defender who may be able to check up to four positions in time."
While he may not be polished in areas like shooting in ball-handling just yet, the physical traits are there for this guy to be an absolute beast.
