Today is National Signing Day, which means the majority of major recruits are off the board. Five-star running back Zach Evans’ crazy recruitment continues on, though.
Evans’ process has been topsy-turvy for months now. He continues to ricochet between SEC programs, but has not yet settled on where he will play next season, despite being one of the most talented high school backs in the country. He was almost reportedly off the board during the Early Signing Period, until an unknown issue caused the school that had taken his letter of intent to back off of him.
Per reports, Evans had actually signed to Georgia without an announcement in December. He was set to make said announcement during the Under Armour All-American Game in early January, but wound up delaying the announcement. It then came out that Georgia elected to not submit his Letter of Intent, effectively severing ties with him.
From there, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and Texas A&M emerged as the three major options for Evans. He took visits to Knoxville and Oxford back in January, checking out the two retooling SEC programs. A&M is the most local power to the Houston native, though he’s reportedly run “hot and cold” with the Aggies.
As you can see, things change pretty rapidly for Zach Evans. A few moments ago, we got another update, via ESPN’s Gerry Hamilton.
Evans’ decision could come as soon as tomorrow, and Hamilton believes that Tennessee may be a slight favorite as we near an eventual decision. Via Michael Bratton of Saturday Down South:
ESPN's Gerry Hamilton on 5-star RB Zach Evans:
"I've spoken to two sources at North Shore and they both said heading into this – after the weekend – Tennessee may have been the favorite over Ole Miss. Now there's some chatter from the Evans camp he may announce (Thursday)."

Evans is the No. 16 recruit in the 2020 class, and the second-ranked running back in the country. 247Sports‘ composite rankings have him as a five-star player.
After today’s Signing Day action, he is the only uncommitted and unsigned player in the site’s top 134 players.
