SBN Site 'Good Bull Hunting' Fools College Football Fans Into Believing That Texas A&M Is Installing Maroon Turf At Kyle Field

Nowadays, given the numerous online sports forums and the prevalence of social networks like Facebook and Twitter, fans can see a headline, not click the article, and usually at least get the gist of whatever has been written. The exception, of course, comes when the article is meant to be satirical - in that case, a great deal of misinformation can often spread. If you haven't seen the website dedicated to Facebook users believing stories from The Onion, you need to check it out.

Saturday, the guys over at SBN's Good Bull Hunting had a little fun with their readers, jokingly confirming a rumorthat Texas A&M was going to install maroon turf at Kyle Field for the 2014 season. Readers who actually opened the post could tell it was a joke - but those who just read the headline obviously could not.

"Look for other field enhancements as the project progresses, including beveled yard line numbers, and an absence of hash marks on the 12 yard line as a symbol of the 12th man something something branding something."

They also tweeted some photos meant to further the joke.

And as you'd guess, people took it as fact. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, which must have a content syndication deal with SB Nation, also had an auto-generated version on its site.

Eventually, Good Bull Hunting had to apologize for confusing so many people.

I'm not sure whether Texas A&M fans will be upset or breathe a sigh of relief - probably the latter. Either way, it shows how easy it is, given the way people consume information today, to fool an entire fan base into believing something ridiculous.
