South Carolina travels to Nashville to play struggling Vanderbilt on Saturday night. The Gamecocks are coming off of a huge win against Georgia at home to stay alive in the SEC East title race. Vanderbilt is 1-2 under first year head coach Derek Mason – the Commodores were blown out by Temple and Ole Miss, but rebounded last week with a win against UMass.

Prediction: South Carolina started the season with an ugly loss to Texas A&M and a narrow victory against East Carolina at home. Since that game, we have learned that the Aggies and Pirates are better than expected. Last week, we also learned that the Gamecocks are still a team that can contend for a conference championship.
In losses to both Temple and Ole Miss, Vanderbilt looked like one of the worst teams in all of FBS – it was dominated thoroughly on both sides of the ball. Last week, the Commodores rebounded and erased an 11-point fourth quarter deficit to defeat Massachusetts by a touchdown. But South Carolina is not Massachusetts.
This is a tricky scheduling spot for South Carolina, which might be feeling a hangover from an emotional win against Georgia. Now the Gamecocks have to travel to Vanderbilt before playing defending SEC East champ Missouri at home. Despite the bad scheduling spot, I think South Carolina’s running game of Brandon Wilds and Mike Davis will dominate on the ground. South Carolina covers the spread.
