Critics of Tennessee men's basketball coach Cuonzo Martin grow louder by the day, despite the fact that the Volunteers are tied for fourth in the SEC and very well may make the NCAA Tournament. Vanderbilt coach Kevin Stallings thinks that is ridiculous, and isn't afraid to call out Martin's critics:
Stallings' statement on the issue was very matter-of-fact.
"For people to speculate on his job is absurd... It used to be, in this business, that guys got four or five years to show what they can do. The only thing that’s changed is people thinking they ought to have more of a say in that, and then weak athletic administrations giving into that kind of pressure."
Martin is 55-39 at Tennessee, and currently in his third season, but he's yet to lead his team to the NCAA Tournament. The pressure is building even more, as some people in the media have begun to discuss Bruce Pearl, whose show cause penalty ends in August, returning to UT.
