Multiple Teams Expressing Interest In Soon-To-Be-Former U.S. Women's Soccer Coach
Vlatko Andonovski will resign as the U.S. women's soccer team's head coach, as first reported Wednesday by 90min.
The Athletic's Meg Linehan later confirmed that Andonovski has submitted his resignation, and the news is expected to be made official Thursday. He may not struggle to land a new position.
According to Linehan, Andonovski has already received interest from multiple international and club-level teams.
Andonovski's departure comes after the USWNT's World Cup threepeat quest ended far earlier than hoped. Sweden eliminated them in the round of 16 -- the national club's earliest exit ever -- on penalty kicks.
They played the Netherlands and Portugal to draws in the group stage, narrowly getting ousted on a shot that hit the goalpost late in Portugal's 0-0 match. The U.S. scored one goal in their final three games.
Andonovski, who replaced Jill Ellis in 2019, faced some criticism for tactical decisions throughout the tournament. He leaves the USWNT with a 51-5-9 record and bronze medal in the Tokyo Olympics.
The manager previously won a MISL Championship with the Missouri Comets before leading FC Kansas City to consecutive NWSL titles in 2014 and 2015. He last led Reign FC to a 21-11-6 mark in two years before taking the USWNT position.
