ABC News Reporter Taking Heat For Outfit During L.A. Wildfires
A prominent ABC News reporter is taking some heat - no pun intended - for his outfit during the Los Angeles wildfires this week.
Longtime ABC News host and reporter David Muir is out in Los Angeles, covering the L.A. wildfires. Tragic wildfires have broke out in Los Angeles this week. The initial fire appeared to start in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood, though it's since moved to areas like Malibu, the Hollywood Hills and more. At least 80,000 people have been evacuated from their homes and more than 1,000 structures have been destroyed. There have reportedly been five deaths, too.
Muir, meanwhile, is trending on social media for the outfit he wore while covering the L.A. wildfires on Wednesday.
Muir, 51, appeared to get caught using clothespins to make his L.A. wildfire jacket look more tailored. While this is a common practice in TV reporting, some believe it's tacky, given the seriousness of the situation.
"This make up wearing mofo used clothes pins to pull in the fire jacket he’s wearing as a prop, so he would look snacky for TV," one fan wrote.
"Kind of funny seeing the media members wearing the jackets (I kept thinking they were fire fighters) meanwhile independent media was doing their coverage in regular clothes," one fan added.
"That’s David Muir. What a complete embarrassment," one fan added.
"ABC had to pull that out deep from the bottom of their costume closet for this one," one fan added.
"Nice Jacket Bro. Glad you look nice and svelte with those clothes line pegs, while our city burns to the ground," one fan added.
Others, meanwhile, are defending Muir, saying it's just common practice, or perhaps he didn't want his jacket blowing in the wind.
"We all do this in TV. Nothing new," one TV reporter wrote.
"Or he didn’t want his jacket (that has a mic attached to it) to be blowing around, what are we doing here?😂Did this guy do something to yall?" one fan added.
Muir is one of several prominent journalists out in L.A., covering the devastating wildfires, which are continuing for a third straight day on Thursday.
United States president elect Donald Trump is blaming California Gov. Gavin Newsom.
"One of the best and most beautiful parts of the United States of America is burning down to the ground. It’s ashes, and Gavin Newscum should resign. This is all his fault!!!" he wrote on Truth Social.
"Fire is spreading rapidly for 3 days — ZERO CONTAINMENT. Nobody has ever seen such failed numbers before! Gross incompetence by Gavin Newscum and Karen Bass….And Biden’s FEMA has no money — all wasted on the Green New Scam! L.A. is a total wipeout!!!"
