Joe Buck Reacts To Death Of Longtime Broadcast Partner
Joe Buck worked with legendary broadcaster Tim McCarver for several years on FOX.
On Thursday, after news of McCarver's passing at the age of 81 was announced, Buck appeared on "The Michael Kay Show" to discuss the kind of impact his former partner had on him professionally.
Before Buck first teamed with McCarver in 1996, his famous father Jack had actually called games with the former longtime MLB catcher. Jack Buck and McCarver didn't have a great working relationship, but his son thankfully had a different experience.
"I could make a baseball point as a 27-year-old no-nothing kid basically, and he would take it in. Maybe argue it, maybe just accept it. When he did that, this young guy (me) had a little more credibility than I had before I started that sentence," Buck told Michael Kay.
"I owe him so much for being that way with me at a pretty fragile time in my broadcast career."
During his lengthy career in the booth, McCarver called MLB games for all four major television networks--NBC, ABC, CBS and FOX.
From 1996-2013, he and Buck were the No. 1 baseball broadcasting team for FOX. Additionally, McCarver called local games for the Phillies, Mets and Yankees at different points in his career.
