Tom Brady Is Not Calling Week 5 Patriots Game
Tom Brady was back in Tampa on Sunday for the first time since his final game in a Tampa Bay Buccaneer uniform.
For Brady, it marked the first occasion of him calling a game for a team he played for. Of course, as much affinity as Bucs fans have for Brady, it's not on the level of what New England Patriots fans feel for the quarterback who won six Super Bowls for the franchise. When Brady eventually calls a game in New England, it will be a party for Pats loyalists.
Whenever that happens, it won't be this weekend. FOX announced Monday that Brady, partner Kevin Burkhardt and sideline reporter Erin Andrews will call Sunday's 49ers-Cardinals game as opposed to traveling to Foxboro for Patriots-Dolphins.
Chris Myers, Mark Sanchez and Kristina Pink will have the Pats-Dolphins broadcast. Other options for Brady were Panthers-Bears and Browns-Commanders at 1 p.m. ET and Raiders-Broncos at 4:05 p.m. ET.
Brady is a Bay Area native who grew up rooting for the 49ers, so having the chance to call a game at Levi's Stadium ought to be a pretty cool experience for him.
Eventually, Brady will be assigned a Patriots game, but it makes sense that FOX would want to hold off on that for as long as possible, particularly when New England is 1-3 with three consecutive losses and looks like one of the worst teams in the league.
Brady has already called three Dallas Cowboys games on the young season.
