It will likely be a while before we learn where Aaron Rodgers will play football in 2022 and beyond. However, one thing is clear following Saturday night's playoff loss: a return to the Packers is far from a guarantee.
Green Bay was the No. 1 seed in the NFC this season. However, the Packers were upset by the No. 6 seed 49ers in the Divisional Round on Saturday night.
Following the game, Rodgers faced many questions about his future. While he deflected most of them, understandably admitting that things were too fresh following the loss, he did have one telling admission.
Rodgers knows that the Packers are facing a tough battle with the salary cap. He said he does not want to be part of a rebuild at this stage in his career.
"That's a fair question -- definitely one I've thought about," Rodgers told reporters on Saturday night.
"I don't want to be a part of a rebuild if I'm going to keep playing."
Rodgers added that he's going to take some time this offseason before making a decision on his career.
“I’m gonna take some time and have conversations with the folks around here and then take some time away and make a decision.”
As long as Rodgers is in Green Bay, the Packers will be contenders. However, it's possible the legendary quarterback will see another team as a better option..
It'll be a fun offseason.
