Legendary NFL running back Adrian Peterson reportedly could have retired and rode off into the sunset - and onto a notable TV show - at the start of the 2021 season.

NFL.com reports that Peterson, who recently signed with the Tennessee Titans, had an offer to appear on a notable TV show.

Instead, Peterson reportedly decided to continue with his NFL career and it paid off, as he signed with the Titans following the Derrick Henry injury news.

From the report:

According to agent Ron Slavin of SportStars, while Peterson was training in an attempt to play a 15th season, a representative from Dancing with the Stars reached out to the running back about a possible stint on the show. One of the most popular shows on TV, Dancing with the Stars would have been something Peterson considered.

But it was early in September, and Peterson still wanted to play. While the producers would have allowed him to leave the live fall show (which began in late September) for the NFL if he ended up signing, he wanted his full attention to be on the field.

The right decision was made.

Still, it's fun to imagine Peterson on the hit TV show. Perhaps we'll get to see it in 2022 or 2023.

For now, though, he'll try to help the Titans push for the playoffs following the crushing injury to Derrick Henry.
