The Ole Miss basketball program has fired longtime head coach Kermit Davis, per college basketball insider Jon Rothstein.

Win Case will take over as interim head coach for the remainder of the 2022-23 season.

Ole Miss has since confirmed these reports with an official announcement.

"A nationwide search has now begun for a new head coach, as Ole Miss and Kermit Davis have mutually agreed to part ways," the team wrote in an official statement.

The basketball world took to Twitter to react to this news.

"The grass isn’t always greener," one fan wrote.

"Timing is interesting," another added.

"Gonna be fascinating to see the candidates for this one," another said.

"My family and I are extremely thankful for the opportunity to lead the Ole Miss men's basketball program the past five years," Davis said in a statement. "We appreciate Chancellor Boyce, Keith Carter, the staff and players for their support and work ethic on behalf of our program, and I wish Ole Miss the best going forward. Oxford is a special place to live and work."

Davis had been the head coach in Oxford since he was hired in 2018. After going 20-13 and making the NCAA Tournament in his first season, his team regressed in the following years.

The Rebels are 10-18 so far this season and dead last in the SEC standings (2-13).

Case, the team's new interim head coach, has served as an assistant under Davis for 15 seasons — first with Middle Tennessee, then following him to Oxford in 2018.
