">ESPN insider Adam Schefter, the team is hiring Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus. Schefter said Jim Caldwell and Dan Quinn were also finalists for the job, but the Bears ultimately wound up choosing Eberflus. Eberflus has ample experience coaching in the NFL. He was a linebackers coach for the Cleveland Browns and Dallas Cowboys before making his way over to the Indianapolis Colts. There's no question that Eberflus has improved the Colts' defense since he became the play-caller in 2018. The defense gave up just 21.5 points per game during the 2021 regular season, which ranked ninth in the league.

It's been a busy week for the Bears. On Tuesday, they hired Ryan Poles as their new general manager. Two days later, Poles chose Eberflus as his head coach.

Poles reportedly interviewed Eberflus and Quinn on Wednesday afternoon. Clearly, he was impressed with Eberflus' presentation.

Now, the focus for the Bears is to make sure they properly develop Justin Fields. He certainly has the potential to be a franchise quarterback.

Of course, only time will tell if Eberflus is the right coach to bring the Bears back to the promised land.
